Backup/Restore Common Tasks

Requesting a Restore

At this time you must contact help AT ece.cmu.edu to request a restore of your data. When requesting a restore please include as much information as possible. Some things to include are:

  • hostname – what system are we looking at
  • what needs to be restored
    • drive – is this an entire disk like c:, /home
    • directory – I need the entire contents of /home/bob/ece100
    • file name – I need the file /home/bob/ece100/proj1.pdf
  • date – what day would you like us to restore to? We may not always be able to reach a specific date, but we can give you a list of nearby options
  • restore to – where would you like the restored information to be placed? Should we overwrite the current data or create a copy in a different location?
